Ming Chuan University is achieving our goal of being an international university through globalization and internationalism. In line with the trend toward globalized competition in higher education, Ming Chuan University established International College to provide English-taught degree programs and promote campus internationalization and inter-institutional cooperation since 2001-2. Ming Chuan University has the top number of international students in Taiwan, which represents our achievement in promoting international education for such the past decade.

In this 21st century knowledge-based economy and global age, Ming Chuan University applies new methods and new knowledge to face the challenges. MCU not only strives for innovation and excellence, but also makes efforts in competition and transcend borders. Ming Chuan University’s development plan accommodates the rapid pace of change, as we strive for globalization and internationalism, and promote our competitiveness.

Internationally, higher education has undergone changes in line with globalization and liberalization. Hence, Ming Chuan University has added internationalized education as one of our educational goals. We recruit international students, provide English-taught degrees programs, hold various activities of international academic exchanges, international guest visits and educational exhibitions to establish the channels of effective exchange and recruitment. These are not only our educational features, but also a big step toward internationalization.

The purpose of promoting internationalized education is to align with the global village. Taiwan is not the only location for employment; our graduates will work around the world. We nurture students with broad worldviews to be international talents with competitive ability through our theory-based and application-oriented education.

The policy of Taiwan’s higher education has now opened to recruit excellent talents from all over the world, which includes the outstanding students from Mainland China. As the government has revised the cross-strait policy, the recruitment of Mainland students has aroused a lot of attention. Most domestic universities have actively begun recruiting Mainland students. This not only can resolve the recruitment crunch in Taiwan, but also can become a key factor in advancing the education environment.

In step with the developments of global society, education is also globalized. Due to their proximity, Taiwan and China have already started to exchange and interact with each other. It is really easy for Taiwan to recruit students from China and resolve the recruitment concerns due to low birthrate here in Taiwan. The recruitment of Mainland students not only can establish multi-culture educational environment in Taiwan, but also can stimulate healthy competition and collaboration among universities on both sides of the strait. It also stimulates Taiwan students’ learning attitude and motivation and assists in promoting the quality of higher education.

Therefore, educational and academic exchange and collaboration not only add to cross-strait interactions, but also illustrate the meaning of “Fit the global trend and become an internationalized university” and assist in sustainable development of cross-strait globalization. Education and talents are the basis of national competitiveness; the development and achievement of cross-strait education enhances higher education collaboration on both sides. Both Taiwan and China consider cross-strait education to be an important issue.
