According to statistics from Quacquarelli Symonds Company, MCU ranked among the top 350 universities in the QS Asia University Rankings 2018 and also ranked in the top 100 Asian Universities for international performance, an excellent rating.
MCU ranked among the top 100 of Asia University Ranking for 2 of the 10 indicators. Especially notable is the excellent performance in internationalization. The indicator of international exchange students ranked 34th in Asia, which received 88.6 points; the indicator of international student percentage ranked 53rd place in Asia.
The campus cleaning competition will be held on Taipei and Taoyuan campuses on next Friday (Dec. 1). General Affairs Division hopes that all at MCU will join in this activity. Outstanding classes will receive monetary awards, certificates, and administrative awards. Before the competition occurs, General Affairs Division will hold a meeting for drawing lots and arranging the cleaning responsibility area for each class. These meetings will be held on Nov. 22 (Wed.), noon in Taipei Campus E402 meeting room, and Nov. 24 (Fri.), noon in Taoyuan Campus P102 classroom. Representatives from each class, please attend the meeting on time.
Mid-term examinations will held next week, Nov. 13-17. The complete mid-term exam schedule has been posted under Exam Schedule and Location Query on the Student Information System.
MCU emphasizes upright morals; students who cheat during examinations will receive a 2nd-Level Expulsion. As a reminder for students who taking their first exams at MCU, please bring your student ID card and stationery items needed for exams. Students who are more than 15 minutes late for an examination are not allowed to take the examination, so it is recommended that students get an early start.
Student Affairs Division reminds everyone that students are not allowed to apply for “personal leave” during the mid-term examination period. Students who need to apply for sick leave on an examination day and complete the leave procedure within two days of missing an exam (including the examination day). The leave application deadline is Nov. 20 (Mon.).

Regarding 2018-19 AY enrollment at MCU for Overseas Chinese Students and Hong Kong and Macau Students, related General Recruitment and Admission Regulations/Procedures have been uploaded to the web. The period of online application and uploading of required documents is from Nov. 6 to Dec. 29.
There are 14 departments in day division accepting applications to 4-year bachelors’ degree programs. The estimated total number of students being recruited this year is 110. Admitted applicants will take the same courses as local students, with the same learning outcome standards.

2017 MCU Alumni Night in HoChiMinh City, Vietnam was held on Oct. 21, organized by Queenie Nguyen who graduated from Business Administration Department and Kate Dang who graduated from International College. Dr. Maria Tu, Associate Dean of International College, represented MCU to join the event and delivered remarks. To cultivate the friendship between Vietnamese MCU alumni, Dr. Tu also announced the establishment of MCU Alumni Association in Vietnam, with Queenie Nguyen serving as the first Association president.

2017 Distinguished Ming Chuan Alumni Lu, Man-Ching (chairman of EMC Fasteners & Tools Company in the U.S.) and her husband Tsai, Qi-Geng, who is the vice chairman of Fujitsu Company in the U.S.A. returned to campus and met with President Lee on Oct. 23. They were accompanied by Wu, Hsin-Hsing, Minister of Overseas Community Affairs Council, for the visit. President Lee presented a medal to Ms. Lu in appreciation of her NTD 1,000,000 contribution as scholarship for international business department to cultivate talents in international business field.

The biggest literary competition at Ming Chuan University, the 29th Ming Chuan University Literary and Arts Awards, is now open for submission. This year’s theme is “Encountering Happiness in Literature and Arts.” Two sections focus on English literary creativity: English Creative Writing and English Four-Panel Comic. Moreover, according to historic statistics, foreign students frequently win prizes in Free-style Photography and Short Film. Weini Wang, Curator of Fong Yang Art Museum and Chair of MCU Alumni Association in Taipei, generously donated an artwork titled Flying to Ming Chuan University that Arthur Yang completed in 2002 for MCU 60th Anniversary. The unveiling ceremony was held on October 6, 2017 in the garden next to the Administration Building on Taipei Campus. “Wings of Liberty” is made of stainless steel, which is to bless MCU with prosperity, teaching excellence and international reputation, and that all MCU students may study abroad as they fly into the world.
International College Weekly Meeting on Taipei Campus will be held at 12:40 pm Friday (October 6) at Sun Yat Sen Auditorium. Mr. Kevin Chen, founder of Empowering Lives through Innovative Volunteerism is invited to deliver a speech on “Service without borders”. All invited faculty members and students are reminded to please attend the weekly meeting on time.
Have you experienced no A/C available in an empty classroom? To manage campus energy effectively, both Taipei and Taoyuan Campus have implemented A/C Monitoring Systems; A/C will turn on 10 minutes before a scheduled class begins, and the A/C will stop operation automatically after the class hour is up. Moreover, following the related MOE regulations, A/C temperature is maintained at 26℃; the temperature cannot be changed. Do you know Oct. 4 (Wed.) is Mid-Autumn Festival? OISS will hold Celebration Events for Mid-Autumn Festival on Oct. 3 (Tue.) on both Taipei and Taoyuan campuses at noon. OISS will provide free mooncakes and drinks (first come first serve), to allow foreign students to experience the festive atmosphere.
To promote all faculty members and students’ consciousness and competence in disaster response, the university will hold an Earthquake Sheltering and Evacuation Drill on both Taoyuan Campus at 13:00 and Taipei Campus at 13:20 on Oct. 5 (Thu.). Faculty members are to please remind all students of the three Earthquake Sheltering Steps: Drop, Cover, and Hold on, and assist in announcing the campus evacuation locations.
In accordance with the announcement of National Day on October 10 (Tuesday) and Adjusted Holiday on October 9 (Monday) from Directorate-General of Personnel Administration, Executive Yuan, MCU has scheduled the adjusted working day for the administrative units on September 30 (Saturday). The classes on October 9 (Monday) are to be rescheduled following discussion between each teacher and group of students.
In line with the establishment of an intelligent campus, MCU faculty, staff and student ID cards have been changed to iPASS from the 1st Semester of 2017-18 AY.
Faculty, Staff and Student iPASS not only has the functions of original Faculty, Staff and Student ID Cards, but also can be used to enter and exit the library, use copy machines and printers, borrow books, and can be used at the automatic pay station, too. In the future, iPASS will be accepted for small payments at the Bursar Section and for dormitory curfew checks.
MCU iPASS is a stored-value card; you can add value and use it for payment at convenience stores on both Taipei and Taoyuan campuses, for MRT and bus, even for parking lot payments in the future. General Affairs Division is actively negotiating with on-campus food vendors to extend the functions of MCU iPASS to benefit all MCU students.
Recently, the declining birthrate has affected the higher education institutions in Taiwan. However, MCU is successfully meeting the challenge with 100% enrollment rate and high registration rates. The 2017-18 registration rate is 97.16% (as of Sept 25) higher than the 97.03% in 2016-17.
President Lee noted that MCU’s educational outcomes have been affirmed by society. MCU was commended for its self-study and granted re-accreditation with MSCHE for 10 years on June 24, 2016. This is the maximum re-accreditation term granted among U.S. accrediting entities. MCU remains the first and only U.S.-Accredited University in Asia. Our School of Management speedily earned accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) on July 25, 2017.The 2017 Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings ranked Ming Chuan among the top 300 universities in Asia. MCU attracts students and parents with its educational outcomes through promoting excellence, professionalism and internationalization, and its visits to senior high schools, along with camps for senior high students over many years.
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in the U.S sent a letter to congratulate MCU School of Management on earning AACSB accreditation to join 5% of Schools of Business around the world which have earned this accreditation. MCU welcomed the final Peer Review Team visit in May 2017 and earned the accreditation on July 25, 2017. The School of Management earned AACSB accreditation in a record-fast three years, indicating that our teaching quality, research ability and students’ performance have been affirmed internationally. MCU is now one of 795 accredited Schools of Business from 53 countries. MCU faculty members and students will have more opportunities of exchange and collaboration with more international Schools of Business in the future, which will promote MCU’s international reputation and renown.
2017-18 AY 1st Semester will begin on September 18, 2017 and the most important activity is “Course Selection”. The initial course selection will begin at 12:30 pm on September 18 (Monday). Students are scheduled for online course selection based on their year of study. The results of Cloud Course Selection Agent System will be announced at 10:00 am on the day of course selection for each year of study. Students who would like to choose courses from other departments, online courses (Accounting and Economics) or retake courses, please grab this chance to add or drop courses through the Student Information System.
In order to encourage students to study hard and maintain the efficiency of Early Warning Mechanisms, the Academic Affairs Division has amended the withdrawal regulations in General Provisions for Study to ‘students must withdraw due to failing 2/3 of their total credits for the semester twice’, which was passed at the University Affairs Committee Meeting on June 12, 2017 and ratified by the Ministry of Education on June 20, 2017. The implementation will be applied retroactively to 2016-17 AY 2nd Semester. Once a student to fails 2/3 of their total credits in the 1st semester and in the 2nd semester as well, that student will be forced to withdraw from study.
